Your Title Does Not Define You

In my experience I have seen people who have been given a title that they probably did not earn, nor deserve since they did not prove themselves in that capacity yet.  Not saying it is wrong, because sometimes you may give someone a “shot at it” before they are ready.   When you give someone a title before they are ready, they could actually hinder the performance of others and jeopardize some meaningful relationships in the process.  If you do “give them a shot”, you will want to make sure the mentoring and coaching that they will need is in place.

In my experience I have seen people who have been given a title because they did earn it by proving themselves and assuming the responsibility before they were ever offered the title.  When that person takes over the new title, they are more likely to engage the relationships and increase performance in the process.  They will still need coaching and mentoring so make sure that is in place.

The true meaning of a title or position should not be the title or position.  It should resonate with who you are, why you are doing what you are doing, becoming the type of person you desire to become.  When you do the right thing, always, then really great things will come to you.  Zig Ziglar said, “If you help others get what they want, you can have everything that you want.”  I truly believe that and I try to live it daily.   It all comes from service first.  Service above Self, as the Rotary saying goes.

You can have the coolest title with the most perceived power, however that will not mean you will have the talent where people will follow.

Be true to yourself, always do more that you are asked to do, assume more responsibility than you currently get paid for, work hard on your self- development perfecting your craft, and guess what?  People will think you are lucky when the big promotion or title comes your way along with the compensation to go with it.

You are accountable only to yourself.  You have to be true to yourself, honest with yourself, look yourself in the mirror and ask “would I fire myself today or hire myself today?”  Ask for help when you need or even before you need it.  There are a lot of people out there ready to help you if you are willing to ask.  Lead your life.  There is no reason to let others lead your life.  You are in charge of your choices, so choose wisely.  If all you are concerned about is your title and whether or not you will look bad, then you need to look deep inside and find your why!

Remember, failing does not mean you are a failure, until you start to blame someone else.  Fail your way to the top!

To your abundance,
