Day 3-4 The Road to Recovery, Neck & Low Back

Sunday was a better day for tingling and numbness in the hand and forearm.  I was pretty active on Sunday and had few issues with any neck pain and some issues with the numbness in my left hand while trying to do some things.  Nothing major.

Sunday night I had a horrible nights sleep.  The left arm/hand and neck were not any worse than normal, I am pretty sure the whole problem was in my head.  I struggled getting to sleep, staying asleep, then had some ridiculous dreams to top it off.  Woke up Monday super tired and very unrested.

Monday morning I got my journaling done, prayer, affirmations & visualizations.  Did my neck decompression and posture pump.  I then headed to my gym and worked on my low back exercise routine to get it ready for the day.  I decompressed my low back and neck 3 different times on Monday.

Monday was the start of the official rehab day as well.  Got some dry needling done by Dave Nissenbaum.  Really like how that loosens up the muscles.  Then I saw Dr. Bob Zimmerman and he worked on decompressing the neck.  A quick trip to see Dr Chris Hammes for an adjustment and I was feeling pretty good.  I really enjoy how each person specializes in something completely different yet they compliment each other at the same time.

By the end of the day on Monday the tingling in my left hand was pretty isolated to the tips of two fingers.  That is really exciting for me.  So far this morning it is much the same, tingling in the first two fingers, and a little in my forearm.  Neck is a little tight but does not hurt.  Ready to tackle the day.

Monday was also a great day nutritionally.  Breakfast was some Brain Octane Oil to help with ketosis.  Lunch was a healthy salad that I made with some avocado & Omega mix.  I did have a snack in afternoon, homemade energy bites.  For supper Jenny made an amazing chicken pesto, without the pasta.  I track my meals on the Cronometer app by Dr Mercola.  I use the free version.  Track your food intake.  If you have a better app, let me know.  Sugar is the kiss of death in my opinion.  It comes in many forms, so know what you are eating.

You should really take the time to read Bullet Proof Diet and Deep Nutrition to really educate yourself on how to learn to feed your body.  I hear it all the time, “when I grew up we ate sugar or some other ingredient and we turned out just fine.”  Then was then and this is now.  Ingredients are not the same anymore.  Lifestyles are not the same anymore.  Sugar is in everything now.  Lifestyle compounded over time will expose you and the next thing you know you are pre-diabetic, over weight, battling heart disease or some other disease.  You owe it to yourself to know what your body needs and how it reacts to different foods.

I also recommend reading “Eat Right for your Blood type” as I believe that there is some valid research done on how certain foods affect the different blood types.  I’ve written on this in the past, search for it in my blog.

For me, I know that a really high fat, low carb diet is not the best for my body.  I do know that high veggie, moderate fat and moderate protein with low sugar and some carbs is a really good diet for me.  Yesterday I had 73g of carbs on a 2100 calorie day.  85g of protein, 120g of good healthy fat.  Too much fat for me yesterday as I could feel it in my gut.  Today my energy level is really high already this morning.

In Deep Nutrition, Dr. Cate also does a tremendous amount of research on vegetable oils and how they affect your body.  Again, compounded over time they make a huge impact in a negative way.  She also does into the long term affects of good fat on your body and especially the development of our kids.  Read it!

Journaling, Prayer, visualizations & affirmations are done for today, off to my home gym to start the back routine and get ready for the day.

So grateful for the outpouring of support from friends & family.  I have a lot to be thankful for as what I am going through pales in comparison to what some others are going through.  I pray for a happy & healthy life for everyone.  I have many blessings in my life and focusing on those positives really helps keep the mental attitude in check.

It is easy to get caught up in the pity party of life and use that as an excuse to not keep moving forward, however that does not help out anyone and I need to nip that in the butt as soon as I notice it happening.

To your health & abundance,

Steve Aune
