Days 16 & 17, The Road to Recovery, C7 Steroid Injection

Saturday & Sunday, July 21st & 22nd, the magical wait two weeks and everything will be better did not happen.  I mentioned this in the my previous recap.  The road to recovery will be a long slog.  Even when you get the edge by having a steroid injection, you still have work to do.  Lifestyle choices, posture, nutrition, exercise, rehab, prayer, belief, all of those things will come into play.

Over the weekend, the pain in my two fingers was definitely better.  It now feels like I cut the tips of my fingers with a knife.  Occasionally I would be doing something and I would be thinking, don’t use that hand because I don’t want to open my cut.  WHAT?  There is no cut, just feels like there is.  Really messes with your head.  I started to get more pulsing pain from neck to my hand again this weekend.  That was what was causing me so many problems before the injection.  I have not had the experience of that much since the injection.

On Sunday Jenny & I went for a long walk and it seems that walking causes the pain from my neck through my arm the most.  I try different walking posture techniques, and I also try different breathing techniques.  What is interesting is that the breathing seems to help the most.

Sleeping has been a battle the past 2-3 days as well.  Really a bummer as I was getting better sleep for a while, and now I get really uncomfortable with the pain in my neck moving into my arm.  Really worried about carrying water when we hike next week.  At least that is on my mind which does not help the mental attitude.

Over the weekend my nutrition was okay.  I had a couple of mishaps, however I am back on track and this week will be better.  I have a game plan for the week and I will stick to it.  I am concerned about traveling as my routine when I travel has to be different this time.  I also have some new things to do while driving and during rest stops.

If you experience low back and leg pain while driving long distances, try this out:  Set the cruise control and take a water bottle and place the water bottle right between your knees, right at the knee joint.  At the same time you squeeze your knees together, press your feet together and flex your ankles pulling your toes to your shins.  Then at the same time you are doing both of those things, grab the steering wheel with both hands and pull your body into an arched back position and then hold all three for 10 seconds then release and relax your back into a rounded cat pose.  Repeat 5-10 times every hour or two and you will notice a difference.
